Week 11: Staff Development

With the Winter Olympics coming up in February, it will be 30yrs since the "Miracle on Ice". In 1980 a group of college kids took on a power house in the game of hockey, the Soviet Union. It was the 1980 Olympics. This was before the time of "dream teams". The coach, Herb Brooks, of the USA team was asked to put together a team of amateurs to go up against the world. Up to this moment, the road to the Olympics was laid with mediocrity and lack of discipline. No one counted the USA to even last the first round. Many of the other teams had professionals playing for them. Yet Herb surrounded himself with a staff that would push the team to do their best. He filled his roster with young men whom he could shape into winners.

His words and actions propelled a group of young men to do the unthinkable. By the time the Olympics came around, this USA team proved everyone wrong.

Staff development is about speaking life into those that you lead. In our business development is so important! There will be many ups and downs that your team will face, but the words you choose will either lift up or tear down your team. Remember the words of John Maxwell....Winning teams have great leaders!

Your assignment this week is to read the final chapter and blog the following. What is your strengths as a leader? make sure to fill out the evaluation and be prepared to discuss this for next Sunday night! Pink hugs! Angie

Week 9: Vision

"Vision without execution is hallucination.”

— Thomas Edison

One of the hardest things I believe to accomplish, yet rewarding is fulfilling a vision. Whether it is personal or a group goal, it must take action to see it come to pass. It is the word "action" that becomes the obsticle. Yet with perserverance it can be accomplished!

"Celebrate what you’ve accomplished, but raise the bar a little higher each time you succeed."

— Mia Hamm

Ladies, as your team grows, they will need a vision! Guess what? That comes from you! The way you treat your business, to how you pour your life into them will help them see your vision in action! That is huge!

"Where there is no vision, people perish."
-Solomon (Prov. 29:18)

Your team is looking for a leader! That leader will not always be me! If you decide to become a Director, YOU will lead them! This course is not about more training, as it is for you to catch a vision for your future and business. Please remember that the Pink Riot course you took before this was to help you see yourself run a business. Not Treating this as a hobby, but a business that can be rewarding financially, while at the same time impacting peoples lives! It was about catching the vision that Mary Kay Ash left for all of us. Catching a vision of the opportunities that are before us. PINK RIOT 212 is about turning up the heat. Facing our fears and allowing God to chip away unnecessary habits, that hinder us from fulfilling our dreams and goals! Ladies, this is about getting ready to take the next step, if you so desire. In order to be a successful Director....its having a vision! Success is not the suit. It is not the car. It is not the paycheck. When the suit goes on, after awhile, it becomes old. After the first car is picked up, you still need to maintain the upkeep of the car. When you begin to have a steady paycheck, there will be down months. Yes, these perks are nice. Yet it is my vision of succees that keeps me going. I still have to work to maintain my leadership role as a Director. I still have to work to maintain the privilage of driving a company car. There is a vision within me to train, equip, and send out powerful ladies who have the same passion to change lives! A legacy that will be passed on to others. God first, family second and career third. A legacy that builds children to see that all things are possible! A legacy that changes the future of those who may step in the path I leave behind. I want you to be a part of it! What vision do you have for yourself?

Your assingment this week is to read Chapter 8 and blog your answer to the following question:

I usually do not do this, but since we are woman of faith I will include the following question, if you feel uncomfortable answering "your relationship with God", its all right. What vision do you want for your relationship with God? Family? Team?

Week 8 Assignment: A sign on there forehead

One day my eldest daughter came home with a story of a friend who was being bullied and mistreated by the other girls in her class. This young lady would be found crying on the playground and being left out. So I shared with her how people wear signs on their foreheads that read, "I want to feel special." So I challenged her to make her feel special. A number of months later I was talking with the young girls mother and she said the following, "I appreciate your daughter so much, she has taught my little girl what it means to be a friend." Wow! Just the other day my youngest was in her room making a card. Ed asked her who the card was for. Her response. "There is a new girl coming to my class from Michigan. I just wanted to welcome her." Wow! When you think that your children are not listening, think again! Ladies we are in the people business. As a Leader we have an opportunity to impact peoples lives. What an honor! Success comes by pouring yourself into other people. In order to be a successful mother, you must pour yourself into your children. To have a successful marriage you must pour into each other, sometimes becoming the pillar that lifts your spouse to the heavens. To have a successful business you must pour yourself into your customers. To be a successful leader you must pour yourself into your team and develop them to do the same. The movie "The Blind Side" just came out. Its a true story of a family that poured themselves into a young man who was homeless. Through their love and reading the "sign on his forehead", this young man finished high school. Received a football scholarship and was drafted as the number one pick in the 2009 NFL Draft.

Your assignment this week is to read Chapter 7 and be prepared for our discussion Sunday evening. Please blog what challenged you this week! Have a great week ladies! Pink Hugs! Angie

Week 6: It's all about ATTITUDE!

Taken from the book, John Maxwell shares a moment with his dad concerning attitude. John had noticed that his 70 year old father was reading motivational attitude books. Questioning his father, he was given a response that speaks so much truth. John's father said the following,"Son, I have to keep working on my thought life. I am responsible to have a great attitude and to maintain it. My attitude does not run on automatic."

This week, it is time to check our attitudes. Read chapter 6. Be prepared to share what you learned! Have a great week! Pink hugs!! Angie

Week 5 Assignment: Problem Solving

Problem solving. Overcoming obstacles. Completing task. A Skin Care Class goes wrong. A customer is not satisfied with a product. An issue arises with a Team Member. All require two skills: quick thinking and critical thinking. Quick thinking skills requires two things: listening and providing a solution at that moment, that changes the course of the situation. It also requires us to use our critical thinking skills to put a plan together that will once again change the course of the situation. Whether it is a spur of the moment decision or one that requires time, we must use these skills if we are to move forward as a leader. In the movie, Remember the Titans, Coach Yoast was presented with a problem at the Northern Virginia Regional Championship game. The refs were against him. His defensive team was getting beaten. His starters were feeling defeated. One even quit in the middle of the game! Coach Yoast was even told before the game that he would be elected to the Virginia Coaches Hall of Fame, if he would do his part in losing the game. Big problem! What did he do?........

Oh yea, by the way, did I say that problem solving can also be inspirational! Never give up ladies! STOP. THINK. DO. INSPIRE! You can do it!

Your next assignment is to read chapter five in the Developing the Leader Within You book, plus do the workbook. Have a great week ladies! Look forward to talking with you next week! Pink Hugs! Angie
