This was another great chapter. I really appreciated his idea of organizing our priorities. He said that "Efficency is the foundation of survival. Effectiveness is the foundation for success". Mary Kay has the best priorities-God first, Family second, and career third. His prioritizing assignment was very helpful in making sure that all of our priorities are handled correctly, from High Importanc/High Urgency to Low Importance/Low Urgency. This helps us to see what level of activities we are spending our precious time on. I'll share my answer to the Pareto Principle question on Sunday.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite quotes in this chapter:
ReplyDelete1. How well you prioritize your time, money, resources, and team will determine how successful your organization will be.
2. 20% of the people in an organization will be responsible for 80% of the organization's success.
3. We reproduce what we are.
4. Many potentially great leaders remain unsuccessful simply because they are inefficient.
5. A leader invests in people.
6. A leader fills in his calendar according to priorities.
7. A leader without a vision can't lead very far.
8. Well place priorities always sit on the edge.
9. The art of being wise is the art of knowing what to overlook.
10. The real reason for running a store is to have customers come in, not to clean up!
11. 95% of achieving anything is knowing what you want!
12. RE-READ POEM ON PAGE 43
13. Too many priorities paralyze us.
14. The reason most major goals are not achieved is that we spend our time doing second things first.
15. Be effective all the time!
I loved this chapter! I have always been good at multitasking and completion. But I have to ask myself, what are the priorites and those second things? I am know going to focus on two levels: priority vs. mudane; no middle ground for me.
This chapter was great an confirmed alot for me! I really need to get back to prioritizing my day the night before and re-prioritizing my chores at home along with my buisness. Because I have been very forgetful latley, I know writing things down in the order he gives, with high Importance/Urgency will help. Can't wait to see the results in my work and family!!
ReplyDeleteSabrina- I love the tool on prioritzation. There are a few things I can't wait to put into practice! The pianist said her secret to success was planned neglect. I need to purposefully just focus on my high importance/ high urgency and leave everything else. I am the type of person where all the little things have to be done first before I can focus on the big thing. I've always been that way and now I have to retrain myself to let those go and focus on the actions that will bring the biggest reward. The same goes for spending quality time with my family and creating those magical moments. Who cares that the house isn't spotless! These tools can be used for all aspects of my life!
