Welcome to Pink Riot 212!

Well ladies, its time to turn the knob onto "high" and get the water boiling! Welcome to Pink Riot 212! Let's begin!

Mary Kay always said,
The speed of the leader, is the speed of the gang

Leadership is the key to growth. It starts with you! With water that is contaminated, water must come to a boil in order to begin killing the bacteria. Now is the time to turn up the heat and create a boil in our minds that kills the contamination of the areas that hinder us from moving forward. As we go through John C. Maxwell's book you will be stretched. In a speech to a group of church leaders, listen to Maxwell's word's and think how it applies to your business.

Assignment 1: Read Introduction and Chap. 1 of "Developing the Leader Within You". Blog what you learned and how this chapter challenged you. Please post your comment by Saturday, Nov. 14th, 9pm. Talk to you next week!!
Pink Hugs! Angie

  1. This video of John Maxwell was powerfull! My husband and I have read many of his books and were tought this kind of leadership, and NOW because we are in a healthy church and have been given the MaryKay opportunity, I am happy that there is another chance for leadership in our lives! I believe that you cannot be a great leader until you have followed well.It is my desire to lead and teach what I have learned as a Christian and MaryKay Consultant as well!!

  3. I love this book!!! I haven't read it in a few years but going back into Ch 1 reminded me of the reason it's one of my favorites. I liked being reminded that leadership is all about the influence that we have on others (which can be positive or negative). Just like in MK we all start at the same level, the same is true with leadership. You can't jump your way up to Personhood with out working through the the other levels first. It all comes down to the point that being in leadership is the ultimate people business. Maxwell says "People who are unable to build solid, lasting relationships will soon discover that they are unable to sustain long, effective leadership"(7) Wow how true is that. This brought back memories of when I worked at the mall and went through numerous managers, because they were never good at the people end of the business. As I started reading I naturally equate everything to MK and this book is a perfect match. With each level I could identify the qualities needed to be successful at the different management level we will work toward in our company and the leadership skill we must have in order to do it well. It was so helpful to read through the bullet points at the end of the chapter to find out what I need to improve on in order to go to the next level of leadership. I cannot wait to start working on the workbook and continue reading.

  4. I gained so much insight in the Intro. & first chapter of this book! I loved what was written about about the role of a boss vs. a Leader! Also that our joy and success in leading depend on our abilities to keep climbing the levels of leadership. I think it's great that we were asked "where we are" in the leadership level...I have some characteristics in each, but I have placed myself between the first and second level and I am excited to GROW! Thank you Angie and all of you ladies for believing in me and giving me your friendship:)

  5. WhatI love about this book was the four categories of a leader. I was able to think back in previous jobs and my current job, and to place each one into one of these categories. I had managed at several different jobs, and as I look back, it all comes down to the people. Its all about the people. Like our visiting NSD said on Saturday, this is a people building business. At my skin care class today, I was reminded of just that. People want to be made special, to be made important, to know that you are there and in it for them. They don't want to be managed. They want to be lead. I don't know why I make this so hard for myself. When I think of why I was chosen to manage, and thik back to those experiences, it was because of the people, not the management. When we REALLY take ourself out of the picture with clients, or team members, and just focus on them and how we can build them up, we will grow and be blessed in more ways than we can imagine. Answering the questions was a good exercise.I was an open-eyed experience of where you think you are, and where you really are. I was reminded, not only in the book about inlfuence on others, but today as well. Women need this opportunity for thousands of reasons. Let's not jar up women for reasons we think they don't need this opportunity. It's like drawing raffle tickets...everyone has their own number and own desires to win the prize!
