Week 6: It's all about ATTITUDE!
Taken from the book, John Maxwell shares a moment with his dad concerning attitude. John had noticed that his 70 year old father was reading motivational attitude books. Questioning his father, he was given a response that speaks so much truth. John's father said the following,"Son, I have to keep working on my thought life. I am responsible to have a great attitude and to maintain it. My attitude does not run on automatic."
This week, it is time to check our attitudes. Read chapter 6. Be prepared to share what you learned! Have a great week! Pink hugs!! Angie

The Chapter on Attitude had so many Great Nuggets for me! I love what it said on pg. 104. One of my favorite quotes was " We cannot control the negative atmosphere of the world, but we can control the atmosphere of our minds." I also appreciated what he said about continuing the choice of reading and growing in our attitudes. I believe in the willingness and committment to growing and changing as long as we are alive. I don't want to get to an age or time in life where I feel that it's too late or not worth growing and learning. The times when I have lost the desire to work on myself, my attitude, Iv'e been miserable and hopeless. I wrote out the answers on pg108-109 and it was very thereputic for me!
ReplyDeleteCh. 7 I learned in this chapter that People tend to become what the most important people in their lives think of them! I love that because it reminds me how influential we are. Also, that success is learning from failure. The truth hurts but I confess that I'm not a very good listener and I want to grow in this area!!
I love the topic of Attitude. I was raise in a home where my mom was all about positive attudes, whether you wanted to have one or not. I truly believe that this upbringing has had a direct effect on how I have become the adult I am today. In chapter 6 Maxwell says "It's not what happens to me that matter but what happens in me". I love this quote. It reminds me that no matter what obstacle we have in our lives it matters how we react to them. I also love that he mentions the "destinatin disease". I see this many times in MK women (and maybe years ago in myself). They say that they won't be happy until they reach director, car driver, etc. But what they need to understand is it not about being happy when you reach something, it's about being happy throughout your entire journey.
ReplyDeleteIn chapter 7 the most important thing that I personally got out of that chapter is the 10 Commandments of Confrontation. I HATE (yes HATE) confrontation. It has made me feel mean if I'm the confronter or intimidated if I'm being confronted. These guidelines made so much sense to me and took that fear out of the equation. This is a people business and I really appreciate this chapter.
Pg. 99 says "our attitudes determine what we see and how we handle our feelings." Pg.101 says "our attitudes cannot stop our feelings, but they can keep our feelings from stopping us." This so true. So many times I act negatively about something I perceive to be a problem. If can change my attitude and see them as opportunities, I won't feel like the victim and maybe even stop the complaining! My supervisor recently retired and announced to it to us on his last day. I was devastated. I didn't have time to process it. I felt like my life was turned upside down and I let my feelings get the better of me. Not only was I going to miss my mentor, but I was afraid of how this change might affect me. I was worried about who would be his replacement and how I would manage if it was someone that had a different style that I would not approve of. My feelings took over me for a few days and I prayed that I could manage the change. Change is inevitable and I told myself I need to understand this and adjust not matter what the outcome. When I got back to work, I was relieved and surprised at the positive changes that will take place. I had been upset and scared for nothing! So many times I have reacted instead of being in control of my feelings. This is how we get stressed. We react to what we do not have control of rather than take care of what we do have control of,our attitude. Things will always work itself out in the end.
ReplyDeleteEverything is life is about your attitude. Every choice you make, how you see something, react to something, write something, it all leads back to your attitude. One can think they are positive and possess a great attitude, but if they sat down and took notes and the decisions and reactions for that day, I think they would be surprised. I don't think it is a coincendence that every teacher in Mary Kay refers to attitude because they think it is a great topic. They speak about it because they know it is vital in all decisions. I love ch. 4 about changing atiitudes. The analogy used about what people do in the public eye versus private life is so crazily true. Outwardness we spare no expense or energy on to impress. Inwardly, our attitudes are neglected and underdeveloped.
